This memorial web site was created in loving memory of Lillian Farlow who passed away on August 27, 2008 at the age of 71. We will love, miss and remember her forever.
On January 18th 1937 a beautiful child was born to Lillian Roush Reynolds in Des Moines Iowa. When she was eight years old her mother got remarried to Elmer Totten, they added two brothers and three sisters to the family. She grew up to be a quiet and reserved woman. While in high school she fell in love with a handsome Navy man by the name of Carl V. Farlow and on February 11th, 1954 they married. Along with his two children, Carl Edward and Marcia Ann (Claire), they started a home of their own. Over the next several years their family began to grow. Allen Leroy was born in 1955, Roseanna Marie came along in 1956 and Eric Andrew in 1959.
In 1960 they relocated to Tacoma Washington. Teresa Lynn was added to the family in 1963. Carl and Lillian loved the country so decided to raise their family on a ten acre farm in Elgin, WA, seven miles west of Purdy. In 1966 they were blessed with their youngest child Richard Raymond. Lillian not only raised 7 children but also took care of the farm, from the canning of the produce to caring for the animals. She had a soft spot in her heart for stray or wounded animals. I remember sharing our home with them. She took in all animals from birds to pigs and nurtured them back to health.
When their children were grown they sold the farm and moved to Yelm Wa., at Lake Lawrence. In 1983 at the age of 49 she went to Fort Steilacoom Commuity College where she proudly completed her high school education.
A few years later they purchased a motor home and became snow birds for the next eleven years. They enjoyed traveling all around the states. She found she liked Arizona a lot and talked of living there one day, but came back to Tacoma Wa. where they purchased a home to be near their children.
Lillian had a love for gardening and went to work part time for her son-in-laws lawn maintenance company. She enjoyed being out doors in the sun and working with flowers and shrubs. She was a member of the Grange for many years and participated in their activities and fund raisers. She also worked for the Census Bureau and the Puyallup Fair.
I remember her telling me in her younger days she worked as a car hop at the local burger stand where they wore roller skates. Skates were like a second skin to her. I recall seeing those skates for many years and hearing about how they loved to dance on skates. She enjoyed quilting, making different craft items, playing the slot machines, watching sci-fi shows and reading romance novels.
Her loving memory will be forever etched in our hearts.
She is survived by her mother Lillian Totten, of Fort Dodge, IA, her husband Carl V. Farlow of Tacoma Wa., her children Claire Detray of Seattle, Wa., Allen Farlow, of Omaha, NE. Roseanna Mosley (Arvin) of Tupelo MS, Eric Farlow of Sedrow Wooley Wa, Teresa Thompson of Spanaway Wa, and Richard Farlow (Ruth) of Yelm Wa.

To Those Whom I love and Those Who Love Me
When I am gone release me, let me go I have so many things to see and do You must not tie yourself to me with tears Be happy that I have had so many years.
I gave you my love you can only guess How much you gave me in happiness I thank you for the love each have shown But now it is time I traveled on alone.
So Grieve a while for me, if grieve you must Then let your grief be comforted by trust It is only for a while that we must part So bless the memories in your heart.
I will not be far away, for life goes on So if you need me, call and I will come Though you can not see or touch me, I will be near And if you listen with your heart, you will hear All of my love around you soft and clear.
Then, when you must come this way alone I will greet you with a smile and a "Welcome Home"
At age 65 Lillian developed breast cancer and struggled with it for the next 6 years. On August 27, 2008 she left us and reunited with her stepfather Elmer Totten, stepson Carl E. Farlow, grandson Christopher Lee Farlow, brother Dale Totten, uncles James (Jr.) Roush, Donald (Buck) Roush, Wayne Roush and her aunt Helen Houseman.
